Well done to this week’s players of the week Alex, Sam and Will.

Juniors this Saturday:
To mark The Solheim Cup between Europe and America being played at Gleneagles this September we are offering an exciting change for this Saturday's coaching.
ALL CHILDREN COME AT 2.30PM
Instead of lessons, a series of competitions will be held for all children from 4-year-olds right up to our oldest juniors. These will include (depending ability):
- PINK COURSE - 36 STROKES FLAG - MEDAL+ 36 STROKES FLAG
To get into the spirit why don’t the children come in U.S.A or Europe colours. We will supply face transfers and keeping with the theme, burgers and juice will be the free food on the day. There will be fun prizes for all the group winners.
Please wear your hoodies for a quick photo shoot. You can always take them off again if hot.
Remember come to have some fun at 2.30pm. As above, MEDAL for handicap players will run alongside a flag competition.

Match Committee News
After a wet few weeks, there are no competitions this weekend and the forecast is a mini-heatwave!! Saturday's tee sheet is looking very sparsely populated so go and grab a tee time to hone your skills before the competitions return the following week with the rearranged Brett Trophy (Gents) and Monthly Medal (Ladies).
In the Junior section last weekend, Jack Small continued his excellent recent form by coming out on top in the S.G. Cunningham Medal with 36 points, five clear of Thomas Wilson who finished as runner-up.
Steven Brand won the Hilson Trophy on Saturday (where golfers play against the course) with a winning mark of 3 up. The reigning champion Ian Maxwell, who won last year with an 8 up score, was runner-up this time around on 2 up. Mark Stevenson and Stephen Higgins were the only other players in the 83-man field who ended the day ahead of the golf course.
After coming close on Saturday, Mark Stevenson did pick up a win on Sunday as he and partner Raymond Giudice (Pitreavie) won the Gents Invitation Greensomes with a nett score of 63.4. The pair won the Fowlis Trophy by a margin of only 0.4 of a shot. The main Scratch prize went to Jimmy Crichton and his son Scott, the former Aberdour member who now plays out of Leven Thistle. They shot 70.
Finally, a reminder to members that you should check how many temporary greens are in play before playing for handicap while the course coring takes place. Scores cannot be accepted where there are more than two winter greens, or if the course has been shortened by more than 100 yards.

Competition Formats
For any new members, or any existing members who are unsure, here are the formats and eligibility requirements for our upcoming competitions over the next month or so:
May Walker Trophy - Ladies stableford competition for those aged 65 and over. Qualifying for handicap purposes and play is from the red tees.
3/4 Century Cup - As the name suggests, this competition is for Gents aged 75 and over. Golfers play from the yellow tees. Qualifying competition for handicap purposes and the format is stableford.
Brimer Cup - This is a Mixed Foursomes competition where Gents play from the white tees and Ladies play from the red tees. Gents tee off on the odd-numbered holes. Don McQueen Trophy - A non-qualifying competition for Gents aged 65 and over, this is played with three clubs and a putter. Play is from the yellow tees.
In addition to these, the usual Gents, Ladies and Senior medals will start up again from 31st August with the course hopefully getting back to normal after the hard work this week from Mark and his team.

Cards For Handicap
It is the time of year where members are starting to scramble to put in cards to maintain their competition handicap for another year. The good news is that this will be the last year where that is necessary because, once the W.H.S starts in November 2020, your handicap will never lapse.
However, to ensure you have a valid handicap for the 2020 season, you still have to put in three qualifying scores before the end of the calendar year. Ensure when doing so that you mark the date and the tees used, and cards must be marked by a member with a handicap.

F.G.A Summer League Update
Gary Cruickshank's Scratch team went down to a narrow 4-2 defeat away to our neighbours at Burntisland GHC. The team remain on course to meet their target of consolidation in Division 2 after last year's promotion, sitting three points clear of bottom side Thornton. However, the final standings in the division remain a little cloudy as Thornton still have three matches to play but it is not clear if these will be fulfilled. Dunfermline have clinched the title, and it looks as though Leven Thistle will be promoted from Division 3.

The Race For The Masters Rory McIlroy has 15 million reasons to smile this week after winning the Tour Championship for the second time in his career - a record he now shares with a certain Mr Tiger Woods - and scooping a cool $15 million prize as a result. The Northern Irishman carded a final-round 66 to finish the week on 18-under-par, four shots clear of Xander Schauffele in second and five clear of playing partner Brooks Koepka. It was that Sunday pairing of McIlroy and Koepka that caught the eye as the two most dominant players on Tour this year went toe-to-toe in a Ryder Cup style battle. The duo are now ranked 1st and 2nd in the World Rankings, with Koepka occupying top spot as he has for most of 2019. Between them, they have won eight majors (four each) but remarkably neither has claimed The Masters. Whilst it may seem a long way away, you can be sure the target for both these players in 2020 will be to make sure they don the Green Jacket at Augusta next spring. |
Revealed: Our top driver of 2019 |
Looking for a new driver this year? There is plenty of choice out there so why not grab a coffee, take five and watch our latest video on why Cobra’s King F9 Speedback driver has set our pulses racing this year? |
“The Cobra King F9 Speedback is very inviting to hit” Well, we certainly agree with that and it’s one of the reasons the F9 Speedback is one of our favourite drivers this year. However, there is much more than just its inviting nature that has had us weak at the knees. Its updated CNC Milled Face ensures you get maximum ball speed when struck out of the centre of the face, but also: “You are not going to see as big a drop off in ball speed or accuracy when you strike it in the heel or toe”. The only thing left to do now is try the F9 Speedback during a demo and let us correctly set the club up to suit your swing.
